Another compressor/gun ???

Looking at a devilbiss JGA ,spec's say 13cfm @23psi. How will that work with a compressor that rates at 6.5 scfm @ 40 psi?? Its a 110 v 30 gallon craftsman professional compressor. Thanks and I know,get a 220v!lol

I am at work now and cannot check to be sure, but I think I have the same gun at home. My compressor is a 220 volt 5 hp with a 30 gallon tank. I think it is rated at 12 cfm at 40 lbs. If I completely release the trigger after each pass it will BARELY keep up with the gun consumption. I am afraid it would deplete yours pretty quickly. For spray guns and air tool use a two-stage compressor is the way to go if you can swing it.

GWall is right. So many people buy air tools and compressors and don't really understand compressor output. They get the impression that if they have a high air pressure they're ok and in some senses that's right but not entirely true. Air tools of any type work on cfm, the cubic feet per minute of air. The spray gun you're using is an air hog plain and simple and while it'll spray for a pretty short period of time, you'll spend more time waiting on the compressor to catch up and build a full charge.

The biggest problem you're going to run into with that particular compressor is going to be orange peel issues, laying on the paint too heavy because of improper atomization, and possible dry lines because you can't keep up with the paint dry time vs the time it takes the compressor to keep up.

Thanks for the info. Still shopping for a gun, heard good things about the astro 4014/4018.like the price, don't like non-usa made.I am borrowing the compressor but i may wire for 220 and rent one when i paint(that seems to be cheapest option).

I could be mistaken but hold the view that cfm is more important than single vs 2 stage...granted 2 stage compressers have higher cfm ratings as a rule.

look for 80 gal tank and 15-16 cfm at 40psi (12cfm at 90) and I bet you would do allright and not overheat the air. I have a total of 4 cylinder worth of pumps, 19-20 cfm (16 at 90) and 40 and 80 gal of tank. I can do pretty much anything i want. I have $350 into the compressors. Harbor freight for a refurbed 60 gal - 14 cfm at $285 and a yard sale for older jacuzzi pump 20 gal for the differrence. I also picked up a 60 gal 12cfm that i put in a shop I'm using for next to nothing. I got air!!

Doesn't a 2 stage create more heat (thus more water) than a single due to compressing the air to 180 vs 130?
