obnoxious noise

Got an '88 Bronco...its' got a loud howl from the back at about 45mph. Goes away at 50 and above or 45 and below. Any guesses?

I would guess the rearend. Jack up the rear axle and see if it has excessive slop in the drivetrain/rearend by wiggling the driveshaft.

Rear axle bearing, probably, or a pinion bearing in the rear end.
