I have a 97 f350 drw 4x2 ext cab with 64,500 miles.I love the truck, but it doesn't seen to pull strong enough(power).I am pulling a 35 foot 5th wheel camper weighing 12,400 dry and then our goodies.
The oniy mods are down pipe, exhaust, diy intake, and rebuilt trans.Truck runs great!!!! I just think it should pull better.
I also have the 3 guages,but haven't installed yet.
Get a custom chip from Tony Wildman or DP Tuning and bigger injectors. If you get the chip or injectors, it's a MUST that you install the gauges to monitor everything.
IMHO 12k+ is not a big load for these trucks. It may take a little longer than you want to get up to speed but you'll get there and maintain it. I gross out near 30K routinely with no problem except it takes longer to get to speed than I would like.
Running a straight exaust made a big difference in EGT's and helped with power for my '97. If you run a chip while towing you absolutely need gauges to keep things within safe parameters!
