I've got a pair of springs that I wasn''t gonna use in my MII suspension... but the springs I was gonna use aren't gonna work so I'm not gonna use them...
that makes sense right ???
The springs that I wasn't gonna use (that I'm now probably gonna use) came from a MII and best I can recollect it was a v-6 engine... Is there a way to calculate, measure, estimate the spring weight ?? Is there someone (say a spring/suspension shop that can accurately tell me if I've got 200# springs or 500" springs ??? they're gonna be holding up a 460 so I know I need a heavy spring.... but I don't have a clue what I got.
I agree with Dick.... although... does the top 1/2 coil and the bottom 1/2 coil equal one active coil ???? research is needed here.... I'm going googling
Active coil
A coil of wire which contributes to the motive force of a spring. In extension and torsion springs, all the coils are active coils. In compression springs, only the coils which show daylight between them are active coils.
well, now... that's a clear as mud...
I'm in agreement Dick... but now I'm so confused I need to look at my springs again.... to be resumed
where is AXRACER when you need him ????? HEY CHUCK !!!
If the Mustang II coils (5310) still have the coded in color paint stripes on them (some use one, some use two), just go to a dealer and have them look up the spring rates. There were about three spring weights used per engine size (2.3/2.8 V6/302), but since the front ends were basically the same, four, six, or V8, there are only about 5 or 6 springs total. Some are the same as Pinto's, because a Mustang II is the same car under the skin. Now you know why the Mustang purists hate those (1974-78) cars.

John, has anyone here done the MII with a 460 that you can use as a reference? I've done a couple of MII's (not Effies) and had to cut 1-2 coils for the correct ride height. I had to try several sets of springs before I got it right. HINT: save your paint until you get it dialed in...Rod
EDIT: You could install a Volare, they have adj torsion bars!
