I traded my 05 SD for an 08 SD and the 6.4 is by far a better engine. It's quieter, feels stronger, and starts instantly. The whole truck is much more refined than the old. I could not be happier! The looks of the truck took a while to get used to when I saw it in magazines and on the internet, but in person, after you get used to it and look at it awhile, it looks very handsome and rugged. It's like ford made parts of the body more angular and left other parts more rounded. There are even hints of Art Deco styling in the lines and shapes of the truck. I think Ford really did good on this one. My 08 is an XLT 4x4 6.4 auto. It's silver and is a pleasure to drive and also just to look at. I had some problems with the 6.0 in the 05 but still loved it and would not consider another brand. Go look at Dodge and Chevy and closely compare them with the Superduty. It's not horsepower and speed or departure angles that make a truck. Suddenly you realize that it's the overall build quality and solid architecture that makes the Superduty the best heavy duty pickup on the planet, just as Ford always claimed it was.
I'm glad you like your truck but to say the 6.4 is by far the better engine that still remains to be seen.... It would be great if the 6.4 is as good as the 6.0 which I'm sure it will be!!!!!!!!!!!
You are right the truck is far better then previous years , and the motor is light years ahead of the 6.0 and 7.3. Man they did their homework on the new 6.4. As a former chevy owner anybody on the fence should not think twice about this truck , it rides similiar to a half ton . Great sound system , nav., the works and love the tailgate step.

I absoluetely love mine as well. Tonight coming home from work I happened to be at a stop light next to a small tavern. Looked in the window and 4 guys holding pool sticks had stopped their game looking staright out the window at the new truck. One guy then walks over to the front door and waives. This is on top of the other day getting the two thumbs up from a guy driing a Chevy Blazer. Notice numerous guys just about breaking their necks as I pass to get a good look at the new truck as well.
It definetely has a strong presence on the road that I personally don't think Chev or Dodge match. Power, fit-finish and overall package is fantastic.
I just bought a new 07 6.0 (traded my 04 6.0). Between being unsure about the new engine and the much larger discount on 07's then the 08's, I went ahead with it. Hopefully I won't be kicking myself for not waiting just a little longer and getting the 6.4.
I did want to say that through the grape vine, I have heard that the diesel techs (at least in Sarasota, Fl) claim that the 6.4 is off to a much better start compared the start of the 6.0. Besides the one recall on the 6.4, I sounds as though the diesel techs have only been doing the general maintenance on the 6.4's. That being said, it also sounded as though the techs were doing less work on the later versions of the 6.0 compared to the early models of it.
I get stopped 2 or 3 times a day and questioned about my truck. All kinds of people asking. I was on a project today and got stopped by 2 contractors driving a Chevy 2500 and they wanted the whole rundown. they were also very impressed by how quiet it was because we stood right in front of it and talked in normal volume without any problems.
I'll second that. There is no turbo lag at all. It takes a little getting used to. Also, the engine is so much quieter that now I can here the turbos spool up from inside the cab. Wish the turbo whine was a little louder!
