I have a friends truck that might start and then it may not. The truck is a 99. Yesterday it was running fine pulled in the garage to check things out and when i shut it off it wouldn't start back. I watched the tach while i was cranking it and it was moving. The truck was trying to but wouldn't. I held the throttle down and it started and i held it 2500 rpms for a liitle bit but when i let off fo it to idle it died, wouldn't start back. After about a half an hour i tried it again and it started up and ran like a new one, shut it off and it started right back up like nothing is wrong. Any ideas would be great besides a match.
Intermittant problems like that are usually something electrical. I would start by checking every connection to make sure that they are tight and clean.
Batteries, wiring harness for the engine, everything.
I agree with Kwikk. Matter of fact, since pushing the pedal helps it, I would start by unplugging, inspecting, and reconnecting the Idle validation switch and throttle pedal assembly (TPS) connectors.
Tenn with that been said i also remember the last time it died it was running and when i put the brake and put it in reverse it was like you shut the key off. So i just wonder if the pedal has something to do with it. Is there any way to check the pedal with a multimeter? I just got done installing a bts for him. I asked him tonight if it did it before and he said it did, thats why he wanted a new trans because a ford shop told him that the trans was keeping it from starting. This is one of those things that if he would have told me this before i could have saved him some money, but like i told him it was still money well spent. Another thing he told me was that one time when he had atrailer hooked up that when he put the brake on it killed the truck. I'm begining to think this is one of those help a friend out that is going to turn into pain. But one thing is that i like a challange and don't give up.
