Intake Throttle Plate Question

If my 2004 engine has an intake throttle plate, AND I have my EGR valve is turned off by my SCT tuner, what is that throttle plate doing in there exactly? Does it hurt my fuel mileage or anything else being there or is it just there doing nothing? Why take it out?

People advise to take it out on the off-chance that there are some trucks around that still have the programming to run the throttle plate. Apparently, Ford took it out of the program pretty early on. Others more knowledgeable than I will have the dates and versions. Chances are, the throttle plate is just sitting in there doing nothing anyway.

If you did have programming that ran it, it would wind up cutting your boost more than anything else.

I think I'm going to remove mine. If not for anything else but to reduce wind drag. People spend money on power elbows, so that butterfly (even open) has to provde some wind resistance.

ok, so I got reading and searching and found a pretty good thread about the throttle plate removal. Someone claimed on there 04 cali truck, it ran alot better after removing. mines a cali truck as well, so Im gonna go see if mine has one and remove it. Sounds like just the 04s had them. Heres the link. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...throttle+plate

A-rod,

Just pulled mine out and repaced it with the 05-07 intake elbow. I had the pins and it was connected.

It runs MUCH smoother and more Responsive!!!

Take that TB out, it takes about 15 mins, and you will not believe the diff.

Take Care,

Cleve, You have a 05, so I am not sure if you will have AS dramatic difference as with us with 04, but you will notice a smoother power response, less turbo lag, lower EGT and Boost pressure.

Take Care.

I can explain. There is a wire with a connector that hooks up to the small motor that moves the throttle body valve.

Some with 04 PSD have un hooked the connector only to find no "pins" to even complete the electrical connection. Ford just installed a non-functioning TB.

As you know Ford got rid of this worthless part on the 05 and newer.

Mine, however did have the "pins" to complete the connections.

It has no effect on anything to unplug and remove the TB.

Glad I did!!

ok so im guessing it is the plug right next to the intake elbow on the passenger side, it had the prongs/pins in there. There used to be some good directions on removing these, now only if I can find them..

Questions? On the 04's. If your remove it and replace it with an 05-on elbow, isn't that the restrictive elbow? ECA di you put the aftermarket elow on or the stock 05 Ford? Thanks

I put on the Aftermarket. It would make no sense to put a stock one one. It is 70% the problem to begin with.
