Emission Pump Problems
Emission Pump Problems
I have a 92 with a 351 and the emissions pump froze up because the truck sat for a while. I put on a smaller belt to override the pump and plugged up all of the lines going to the pump. I have not got a chance to drive it because all the exhaust is off, I have new stuff coming in the mail. I just want to make sure this will not cause any problems. Thanks for all the help.

I have not got it inspected in a few years, but in order to get it reregistered they told me I must get it inspected first. I do know somebody who can take care of that for me. I need to know if what I did will cause any performance problems.

It's probably doing something bad to my cat, but it can't be that bad because it must have been like this for a long time. This is now on the list of minor repairs, but it's at the end and it's a long list.
The truck shouldn't have passed the visual inspection like this but it like I said it passed the actual emissions test. It probably would depend on how knowledgable and diligent your particular tester is. When testing first came into effect years ago they were very thorough and uptight. Now, the process seems as careless as a trip to Jiffy Lube
.That's two non-answers, but considering what you paid for this help you aren't doing too bad
. Hope this helps anyway.Calvin
I honestley can't say, 777. I have never done that myself, but One of my friends did that first thing to his '92 pony car and it has passed ever since. I don't know how it is passing considering the upgrades he's done to that car but he hasn't failed an emmissions test yet. He swears it made more power the moment he bypassed it, but I believe in the old- "if it aint broke don't fix it". Now when mine does break it will receive all the goodies front to rear.
Mechanically- The best I remember the only thing the pump does is draw air in and force it into the port on the catalytic converter, causing the leftover emmissions gasses to superheat and burn the extra particles. Resulting in cleaner emmissions levels. So- the pump is only a drain on the engine. I'd bypass it and see how it runs. I don't believe it will set any codes since the o2 sensor is in front of the cat. I don't think it will effect fuel mileage. The only thing I think it will effect is the emmissions output. That said I think it will still pass an emmissions test without it.
