fuel gauge

Several times when I have filled up (07 SC SB 6.0) I notice that the fuel gauge doesn't move all the way up. Then about ten to twenty minutes later I see it start to slowly go above the "F" on the gauge. Anyone else see this happening? I can certainly live with this provided it doesn't stick somewhere below "F", but is this indicative of some other problem?.

Will harpooning the tank eliminate this from happening?

Not that big a deal, but something I noticed.

Maybe. Do you leave the key "ON" while fueling? This will have that effect.

My bosses truck did this today when after i filled it up. After about 20min of running the guage was just at half. Not sure why it was going up so slowly? The truck had been sitting for a while without running.

Thanks for the responses.

The key is always off when I fuel up, so I don't think that is the problem.

The truck did sit for a few days prior to my filling it up. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Sounds normal.

Mine sometimes goes right up to full and sometimes it takes a few minutes to go to full.

All sounds right to me and just a normal thing.

Its a normal symptom of the way the slosh module works. The slosh module keeps the gauge stable when going around corners, accel and decel.

Thanks.

I'm glad to hear that it's not a problem. I know that sometimes I can be a bit **** about my vehicles...

Actually if it is doing this when he is filling up with the key in the off position there is a problem. Most likely the float is getting stuck. If you fill up with the truck off, when you start the truck the fuel gauge should move staight to full.

If you fill up with the truck running, the fuel gauge should raise right along with the fuel level, and be full when you are done pumping.

Fueling up with the truck in the accessory position has been know to cause issues with the gauge.

fuel gauge

I was filling up with key in off positon [about 1/4 tank left] filled up.
I started my truck and noticed fuel gauge only moved to 1/2 tank.
The next morning started truck same thing 1/2 tank, started driving to work a few miles fuel gauge slowy moving to full about 25 min. later. MY next 2 fill ups gauge was working fine.
