I was driving into work the other day and my 06 Hybrid engine turned off and the message center said "Stop Safely now" After 10 Minutes it's fine again but you can only go about a mile before this happens.
I checked the Battery AC filter and that was a bit dirty and I'm replacing it.
The oil was a bit low and the dipstick rusty so I topped that off. Going to do an Oil change as well. Going to change the fuel filter too.
Anyone else have this problem? I am going to get a code reader but wanted to make sure the escapes didn't have a fancier system. Is there any diagnostic software out there?
This sounds like something you should definately take to the dealer. I know that Prius's have had a similar problem where they would just come to a stop due to some sort of a software glitch. Let us know what you find out and good luck.
The "stop safely" message could be any one of several faults all requiring immediate attention. It could be brake related failure or a problem with the electric drive system or battery. More than likely it is not drivetrain related. Some failures of this nature have been corrected with a reflash of the computer or just resetting the computer either by turning the car off or removing the battery cables for 15-20 minutes.
