Had a 3 day weekend to work on Gracie! Got the tallight install completed on both sides, metalworked out al the welding shrinkage with a lot of help from the wife. Would have been near impossible to do by myself without 6 ft long arms! Really helps that she is also a goldsmith so is used to working and shaping metal, I directed her and bucked the low spots from the outside while she bumped them out from the inside. I still hadn't addressed the brass filled holes in the rear door, so that was next on the list. Drilled them out for steel filler plugs, welded them in and then smoothed out the skin. Took out a bunch of small dents near the bottom edge of the door while I was at it.
Next we moved on to the dash and console. Fitted up the lower dash valance, that was a lot more work than expected do to a reinforcing strip inside the dash lower edge limiting the bolt locations. Since we had to drill the mounting holes by measurement, they needed some adjustment, so it was put it up and check fit, remove and adjust the holes, put it back up, etc. There wasn't a whole lot of "wiggle room" so we couldn't just make the holes way oversized.
Once that was in place we started on the console design. Suddenly my gas pedal mount was going to interfere, so I had to remake the mount and linkage to move it. I hadn't paid close attention to the fact the hump in the firewall is not centered until I started laying out the console location. I'm going to do a cardboard mockup now to figure out how to deal with the asymetry since I want to include the stick shift into the console design but it is dead center. I may have to make the console asymetric or mount the shifter boot symetrically in the top of the console with the shifter coming thru it off center??? I'll have until next Sat to think about it.
Many of you have seen the paint on my truck. I took the hood down from it hanging place and sanded the inside of the hood. I took off the front ford part and sanded it down as well. I painted the inside of the hood and hopefully it will be dry enough to flip and do some minor body work on the outside of the hood. I will then paint the outside hopefully tonight. I am in the process of placing an order for parts as I write to fill everyone in on my progress. Hell, I might actually make Nationals this year. I was not feeling very good about it last week, but thanks to my dad helping me out it is looking very good that I will have my truck with me.
Ax seems like you have got alot accomplished as well. Post some pics of the console. I am looking for ideas for mine. I found all the dash *****. I must have ordered them a while back and forgot. A few less things I have to buy now.

"It's all Kool-n-the gang baby".......... Chuck, think early '60's GM console. Was it Olds Cutlass? Impala? Maybe it was Buick Riv? I think it was a Riv console. Came from under the dash and ran smack dab down the center of the car with a nice off-set to the drivers side of the interior for the floor shift.
I think it was a Buick console... more I think on it, I think the GS had something similar too. I'm gonna look and see if I can find a pic or 2 for ya.
Wow, you had a busy weekend, cool! I can't wait to see the console as well as I am tossing around some ideas for my 49.
For my progress? Well, Friday evening I decided I needed to tweak my throttle linkage as I wasn't getting full throttle. Heck, I was barely getting 2/3 or so. I did some messing around and managed to get it to about 4/5 throttle at wide open. I took a few test drives...wow! Its amazing what having the secondaries open up will do for you.
On Saturday I pulled the bed floor up and cut my battery access door into the floor. I did a bit of fabricating and then put the floor back in. The only thing I'm lacking is a Dzus fastener to hold it in place.
I interspersed a few frosty beverages throughout the process (see Item(s) #3, #5 of my weekend plans thread) On Sunday I attended a family gathering at my brother's house, ate way too much food, and visited with family and friends.
i pretty much sat on my butt in front of the computer all weekend. just trying to find more ways to spend money that i dont have. such a lokar pedals, borgeson steering column, etc, etc. that and ate way to much food and didnt accomplish any thing on the truck. oh well stuff happens
I got all the old stock suspension ripped out, and the new stuff planned. Time to start cutting and welding, and should have it back on wheels in a week or two!
Looks like you had a busy weekend AX, plus the Easter bunny came to visit? How many times has it happened when you think a job is going to be fairly easy and becomes a major overhaul... LOL.. Boy can I relate. You are very lucky to have a wife like yours who is willing to work on the truck with you. Not many out there that'll do that.
Well I didn't do a whole lot on my truck, I spent my 3-day weekend pounding out a big dent in my orig. RUST-free quarter on my 67 mustang, because my bosse's wife backed into it with her Yukon at the end of the summer last year. So I got it straightened out and filled primed and painted by Sat night and I was able to fix a couple small dents in my grill for the '55 and I painted that the same Wimbolton White as my mustang. Oh and I sucessfully made the 440 miles from NE Iowa to Missouri on Sunday in my 67 mustang. So all in all I drove around 950 miles, painted, and ate a lot this last weekend, and now my car is out for the summer. Just go tto get my truck on the road now.
Well, I didn't get a lot DONE on the truck. We took it to church Sunday morning, and had an awesome service! We came out after the celebration and there was a white mid-seventies F150 in white, freshly waxed with glistening 20" chrome rims. I don't know who owns it (our church runs about 300, and there were about 80 at the early service) but I'll have to search them out and introduce them to FTE.
It was fridged here Sunday and the heater in Blue worked well enough to keep us defrosted but the 165 thermostat didn't help provide us with much heat. If we end up moving north (SD) in the fall I'll have to swap the old 195 back in. Thinking about that got me thinking about what I'm going to do with the proceeds from selling my bike this spring, and I ended up doing a lot of online shopping for RV cams, flat topped pistons, hydroboost brakes, ifs...eh it was probably a waste of time, since the bike's not even up for sale yet, so I've got no budget, but it was a good day. That and the wife made a nice ham, cremed potatoes, homade rolls, etc. Good stuff, GREAT DAY.
Sounds like a great Sunday to me. I close the restaurant on Easter so my employees can go to church and spend time with their families. I close every major holiday, family is more important. I learned that as I get older.
