460 tuffness

Me and my good friend are both from the south but we both happend to meet up here in Wyoming. It has been really muddy so we went mudding at my ranch. Then there were some 3 foot deep puddle things around and I went and hit one of those at about 40mph and shot water every where. It killed the motor, and steam was rolling out the hood and from under the bed. I poped the top and almost got burnt by the steam, looked and everything was ok but just really wet. I must have sucked some water in motor, because when I turned it over it didnt really want to start but then it fired right up but it was banging and i am pretty sure only 5 of the cilenders were firing. It shot out steam and such out the tail pipe like crazy but then I nailed it to get out of the water, my power was about 2/3 as much as usual but it had to do its regular duties at the ranch still. I waited over night to see if it would be better in the morning, it wasnt when it started it shoot and banged and the idle was crazy. Then that morning the check engin light came on so I took apart the intake and let my air filter be so it was only the thottle body. Took off my disributor cap whiped it down with some paper towels and it down and it was better than it was before it barly ran. All it took was some paper towels and a screw driver to make it good as new. The next day we finished the mudding and lived happily ever after with out my dad ever finding out. oh yah anyone know of any snorkle kits for a 97' 250? so that is the story of the tuff truck.

You've got to be carefull not to suck water into the engine cylinders. Water doesn't compress and will bend a rod or break a piston. You can fab a snorkle out of PVC to atleast get you started.

Exclamation

Hydrolock = bad news

Be careful out there in that water. Sounds like you got lucky and only had a wet ignition system this time around.

This bring's up a good question though. ARE there any good snorkel kits for Fords? I'm a Jeep Cherokee (XJ!) convert who is used to having all the aftermarket parts I can think of (or afford!). My '93 460 doesn't se mud much, or water, but I'm still curious!

Thumbs up

I have never ran across anything like that. You would probably have to homemake one. My wife has a XJ, If you have time and dont mind, please shoot me a PM and let me know where to find some sites that carry alot of mods for them.

Thanks
Eric

I couldn't send you a PM. Sorry everyone for having to post this here.

Ha ha ok, well, It's been about a year or so but our first stop should be jeepsunlimited (dot com)
THey are like a portal to everything Jeep! ARB makes a TON of killer stuff. Their bumpers and snorkels are top of the line.

You might also try rustysoffroad (dot com). I did a ton of shopping with them. Hit up the J.U. site though, and you won't be dissapointed. THose guys will give you about a million places to spend your hard earned money at.

If i think of any of the other site names I'll send em' to ya'. I have since formatted my laptop and I don't have them on anymore. Anyway, take it easy and enjoy the XJ and the Ford!

Note: I attempted to send this via PM but i had to take the links out to other sites( I have less than 25 posts so I can't post links), then it wouldnt let me send it anyway. So here it is.
