Pull the axles and take them to a shop. They are pressed in tight and special reamers are required.

The good bushings require a $$ reamer. Most of the time the pins require a press to get them out.

Torque1st is correct on this one and the reamers he mentioned are specifically designed for Kingpin bushings. I tried to do it myself with a set of hand reamers that I had and it does not work. The kingpin reamers are extra long, so as to keep the bushing bores aligned during the reaming process. Another thing you should know is that many shops may no longer have the tooling to ream these bushings anymore. I had to call many Ford dealers in my area before I found one that could do the job, so before you tear your spindles apart make sure you have found a place to do your bushings for you.

It will be. :)

Just don't go to a Ford dealership for -anything- -anymore- unless you want to hear "obsolete" just for the fun of it. ;)

Last time i had mine done, took in the knuckles and it was supposed to be $10 (x2) labor, they only charge me $10 total because the knuckles were so clean. :)

My thinking was I'd rather have the guy spend his time doing a good job rather than spending his time cleaning.

It's a simple enough job, other than having the reamer, it'd be an easy "do it yourself" project.

What prompted me to do my kingpins is, I had the "45 mph wobbles" and a friend that had worked as a mechanic at a Ford dealership said "some thing's lose" "it's not always a certain thing, usually a little bit of everything added up".

So I went through everything. :)
No more wobbles. :)

Fix it like you mean business. :)

Shops and dealerships that specialize in heavy truck repair are more likely to have the tools.

The pins can be a bear to get out so don't damage anything b4 you take it to a properly equipped shop. The parts are heat treated so don't heat them excessively.

oh yeah, mine are bad. no doubt. took the right tire and moved it like a ball joint would have been bad. went to my local napa today. he gave me a # of a guy he said could do them. the napa is the only parts store i trust here. all the others are those accessory stores. i don't care about hubcaps, just brand name parts and somebody knowing what to give me. i will have to wait a couple days. but i will call the # i was given. thanks all

Loose wheel bearings can also cause a wobble.

With any "first time" taking something apart you want to put back together... it's kinda slow and seems like a big deal being careful to look things over good etc.

But the second time (for whatever reason) you're going to think it's easy. :)

Just looked in my shop manual to be sure... yep, my notes say "out through the top" and "back in through the top". Not sure why that is but every time I've done that job, that's the direction(s) that the pin moved easiest.

I couldn't -see- play in mine and they were friggin shot!

What the heck else is shot under the front end of your pickup? :)

i bought this f350 dump off ebay. it needs lots of work, and wasn't supposed to. the bed is shot, totally worthless. the front end needs brakes, tommorrows project, and king pins, and a few other odds and ends.
