Engine Size?
My nephew pulled home a truck today. The title says '75 but it has a '78 or '79 grill. I believe someone has probably taken two trucks and made one. It's got 4wd and is a standard shift. What is the best way of determining the engine size? He needs to change the clutch out but he's unsure of the size. It's definitely a v8 but unsure of the cubic inches. Thanks.

302 = 6 valve cover bolts
360/390 = 5 valve cover bolts

302 = 6 valve cover bolts
351M/400 = 8 valve cover bolts.
460 engine were all C6 automatics: 1973/79

351C/M/400 335 series: 8 bolts in rectangular valve covers. Timing chain housing is part of block. Thermostat housing on block. Exhaust bolt holes diagonal.
351M/400 335 series: intake is 12.7" wide the 351C is narrow.
351W/302/5.0L 6 bolts on trapezoidal valve covers. Thermostat housing on intake. Exhaust bolt holes horizontal.
429/460 385 series: 7 bolts in rectangular valve cover
352/360/390/427/428 FE series: Intake goes under valve covers.
-There are other indicators but these are enough to distinguish engine families.
Looking at the block at the base of the distributor the 351C will be even with the bottom of the intake manifold. With a 351M/400 there will be a ~1" high lip up to the bottom of the intake manifold.
