i have a 94 4L ranger with ~128500 miles on it. when i put the pedal to the floor there is not a bunch of power. the accelaration is good when starting but at highway speeds it's really slow. It does not seem to have a ton of power from what it feels like. any ideas on whats wrong? time for a tuneup ? the tires have enough air. Im going to be towing a boat with it soon so the power kinda has me worried. help ?
could need need a tune up but when was the last time you replaced the fuel filter? With fuel injection you need at least 30 psi at idle and 38 to 40 at WOT, if the filter is clogged or fuel pump is going south it would cause that problem. fuel filter is the cheapest at first.
What transmission? The 4.0L is a low down torque motor and doesn't have a ton of horsepower. It doesn't seem paticularly responsive on the highway just for that reason.
I'd suggest you pull the codes using this document: http://fords.kilonet.org/ken00/EECIVQT.pdf
Just how slow are you talking on the highway? Mine doesn't seem paticularly responsive, takes a lot of pedal just to keep going, but if I put it to the floor on the highway, even in overdrive, it'll move decently well.
