I bought my excursion new in 01 and it has only 60046 mi on it and is the best vehicle that I have ever owned. Just like new. I just thought I'd put my two cents in.
Yeah, I know. The names about to change though. I've been a Ford man since I started driving, but switched to chevy 8 yrs ago thinking they better. then I realised not better just different. This is the first diesel I am looking to own and Ford EX seems to fit my needs (wife, 4 kids, a dog and a travel trailer).
I'm getting to like my '01 better and better every day..I'm a chevy guy that bought this thing to tow my bigger trailer and to save on fuel.. Now that I've gotten all new brakes (somehow that fact got overlooked by the previous owner),new monotube shocks,an AFE1 air intake, air bags and then today,my new Hellwig sway bar,I'm past the 3/4 ton Suburban in tow capability..I also got an Equalizer hitch and last weeks trip was awesome as that 34' 9500# TT folowed me down the road like a puppy and the mpg ranged from a low of 9.5mpg to 11 mpg..The Chev averaged 6.5mpg towing and around here diesel is running around .10 to .30 cents a gallon cheaper than gas..Next on the agenda is a 4" exhaust to get rid of all that 3 1/2" column of air coming from the AFE..Lessee,26 hours of o/t last month oughta cover that...
I recently put F-350 springs on the back and aux air bags on the front and it made a tremendous difference. Yesterday I pulled a pretty heavy dump trailer containing about three yards of dirt, can't wait until I pull the 30' travel trailer. I'm of the opinion that if Ford had put the correct springs on it to begin with they would have been able to sell enough to keep production viable. Anyway I'm certainly keeping mine even though we don't really need eight passenger seating any more.
