After replacing the head and head gasket , the engine had a rough idle. Tried everything-Next step was to change out fuel injectors. As I was cleaning the EGR I had to move the vacumn line out of the way and heard a cracking noise. Voila!
The Egr Vacumn line originates on the Driver side of engine of of throttle body and crosses over valve cove and rides down to the right front of engine where it goes through some sensor, It then makes it way back to the EGR valve. ANYWAY It and 2 other vacumn lines all made of the thin plastic all are encases in the same protective black plastic slip cover. These 3 lines were brittle as could be and were leaking. I could hear no hissing as the 3 are inside the pastic guide. I replaced all 3 with new plastic and rubber vacumn lines and all is good. Idle is real smooth. I never read this before so I am adding. I am one happy individual!
LOOK AT YOUR HIDDEN PLASTIC VACUMN TUBING-It becomes brittle after 10+ years!!!!!!
Good post Chef!!!! It's always good to get posts of successfull troubleshooting/diagnosis. It'll be one more resource when someone does a thread search which is the first line of attack for someone looking for solutions to their truck problems which is what this forum is all about.
