My truck hasnt had the cruise control fix done yet, ill check tomorrow just to be sure, but what i understand is that all ford does is put in a inline fuse on the hot wire. Could i buy a inline fuse for it at AutoZone or something and splice it in there?
I wanted to do this mainly because i like my truck best when its not on fire, and that its been soo long since ford called the recall out that they will charge me to install a $3-5 part.
Has anyone thought of this or done it?
It is a fusable link harness going to the switch on the master cylinder. You can still have it done for free since it is a safety recall. Won't take but a few minutes at the dealer.
Ive got to get this done on our 97 expy, I just had it done on the 2001 F150, a few months ago , like lexman stated it will be free, and should,nt take them but a few minutes
its worth the wait...
I had mine done on my 99 Screw. The service writer just got the part and put in as I waited. It took me longer to open the hood than it took him to put it in.
B4 i call for an appointment, i want to make sure its already not done.
What does it look like? any pics? i looked at it 2day and i didnt see any leaking fluid or any fused wires .
I is a fusable link in the far outward end of the master cylinder. It is a big glob of wire for what it does. Mine has a blade style fuse holder with a zip-tie holding it closed. It has a sticker on it stating that it is a "non-serviceable" fusable link.
you cant miss it. look for the connector coming off of the brake master cylinder. if it has a brand new wire and fuseable like on it, and it will have the safety recall tag on it(also looks like a bunch of wires wrapped in electrical tape).
My dealer told me the same thing. I took it in that morning and told them there was no need to leave the truck since it would take no more than 15 minutes maximum for the job to be done. I went to breakfast at the restaurant in the dealership and by the time I got back to the service area, it was sitting there ready to go. The cashier commented that she had paged me several times. So, I was out of there in the time that it took me to eat breakfast.
