replacing carburetor
My question is, how difficult is it to replace a carburetor? What needs to be disconnected? Is it reasonable to think that I can figure it out or is it a major project. The choke plate just stays open now, so it tends to flood especially on starting.
Also, suggestions for what to replace the motorcraft carb with, I found a Holley II reman for $89. If I'm going to bother with the carb replacement, I guess I'd rather have some improvement in mileage or performance, rather than just swap out for the same thing.
Thanks Again.

JSYK, it is best to keep everything together rather than statr new threads.

There are numerous carbs that fit that 390.
I find Holley's to cantakerous to work with.
I prefer Edelbrock or even an OEM Ford 4v carb.
Just watch what size you get.
For street use nothing more than 570cfm carb is big enough.
