ok guy's..the other day I posted that my Trans was slipping and found it to be the TC..I washed the truck the day it went out...so I cleaned the 103 plug under the hood and took her for a ride..all went good for 2 days.. then last night I found it to be slipping again..I took it easy going home with it and got stopped at a light..when I drove off the TC locked that time and went well all the way home..when I got home I took all the plugs off of the Trans and cleaned and greased all of them..took it for a long ride and every thing went great..came home and parked it..later went down to see a friend and the TC would not lock again..left his place the TC would still not lock..got to the 1st stop sign..took off and the TC locked up..worked well all the way home..even stopped and got a 6 Pak..what's going on here?? is there a cylinoid in the Trans that could be going bad?? if not what what's cause this?? the Trans shifts good when TC locks
up date..after making this post i went back out and hooked up my SP diesel exhaust brake and TC lock..i set to lock TC at 25 MPH..shifted great most of the time at 1rst..but later start to not lock again...im sure this solenoid is going bad..is this a easy DIY if so where is it??or is there some thing else that could be wrong?? im new to AE and im sure i could see if the solnoid is bad.. it will tell me...time to dig out the book...thanks guy's
From your other thread I suspect that you got water in one or more of the connectors for the lockup solenoid. That can really mess with the way the solenoid works. This is the most likely thing that's wrong with your truck.
It is possible that the torque converter clutch solenoid is going bad, but it isn't likely. It's mounted on the valve body.
It is more likely that the torque converter clutch is on it's way out. They don't last real long in a stock truck, and they last A LOT less in a truck with a power adder.
thanks casey..i did clean and dry then greese the 2 conetions on the trans and the c-103 plug under the air box..it got better but not fixed...sounds like its time for a TC ??
I would agree a new multi disc TC is what you are in need of to cure the problem. There are several on ebay, I ordered all my stuff through transmission exchange
They didn't have any converters listed, but when I emailed them they were very eager to assist.
Good call, you should definity do the tranny if you can afford it. I know that when we my friend swapped a nice TC in his Dodge his tranny died about 3000 later taking his expensive new TC out with it. I have heard one can kill the other, no personal experience myself.
thanks a lot guy's..with a 166k on her im thinking a new trans is in order...id hate to spend on a TC then have the trans blow up..
Don't let it drag on too long. If the TC starts spitting chuncks down range it will clog up the coolers and possibly make it back to the tranny as well.
