Man this sucks! I bought my 86 bronco about a year ago and was unable to get the window down. I removed the access panel and jumped the motor to get the glass down and now I cant get it up:-X23. I put power to the motor to get it up but now I have nothing, and the glass is in the way to remove the motor. I thought I heard somewhere that ford had a template to drill into the tailgate and drill out the rivits to remove the glass, anyone know about this or should I just shatter it, and start over? Also what is the part under tension that should be blocked while taking everything apart? (I like my fingers!)
Did you actuate the locking mechanisms on the gate while it was open, before trying to operate motor. If you do get the motor to operate, do not forget a support for the window while it is extended. Yes that arm is sometimes spring loaded and can hurt. I guess you can drill a hole through the arm and near by support in-order to pin it in place. Googd luck.
With the tailgate down, close the latches on the tailgate manually. Then have somebody turn the key while you put something in the access panel to pull up on the bottom of the window. When you get is up about 5-6" you'll see the brackets on the window. You can just remove the bolts that hold the bracket to the regulator arms. No need to drill out the rivots unless you are replacing the glass. If you want to get the glass all the way out, you will probably have to remove the weather stripping so the brackets and fit through that top slot.
THANKS GUYS! I guess I will try the part about prying it up a little I really dont want to drill into the tailgate. Is there an aftermarket manucturer that ya'll know about that makes some kind of crank mechanism. I dont use it very often and if I need to replace the dash switch, tailgate switch, and motor it would be worth to me to just eliminate it. I thought about a soft top but have not seen one that appealed to me yet!
