Hey people.I got a 1988 f-250 4x4 diesel ,no turbo. Its the 7.3 liter with a manuel tranny.I got it off a buddy of mine and when i recived it the truck was blowing white smoke. My buddy said that he was told the injector pump needed rebuilt.Tha truck has 300,000kms on it so i took the pump off and sent it in for overhaul.A$1100.00 later and after putting it back in the truck still blows white smoke continuoisly out of the exhaust.?Now i lined up the timing marks according to the shop manuel and thats it.Everything went back together the way it came out.It starts fine and idels smoothly and throttle response seems normal. The shop manual i got says something about getting the pump timed dynamically at a dealer.Could this be my problem seeing how i only statically timed the pump by lining up all the timing marks.Anyway some info will be greatly appriceated[i cant spell worth a damn thats why im a welder for a living]ha,ha.Thanks ......Norm Collins
switchback05,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.
Are you losing any coolant?
What does the smoke smell like? Sweet or like fuel
Advancing the timing slightly may cure your problem if it smells like fuel
You could also need to have the injectors rebuilt or replace them with new ones.
If the smoke is sweet smelling that points to more serious problems.
Hi.Thanks for your info.First of all i checked into it and its not coolant. My radiator does not apear to be losing fliud level. The smoke does not smell sweet.I will check into advanceing the timing.Ya and i figured i may have to get new injectors but i was hoping to avoid doing that. This truck is my bush truck and sometimes i drive it to work.Well i will look into that and thanks again for your insite.Take care
