i just bought a 460 about a week ago, i cant find the casting # on the block (a picture would be a great help) but the heads say its a c9ve-a....69 lincoln...right? well, i got talking to my neighbor while searching for a flywheel and his brother has a 71 429 that he's giving to me...its been sitting out for a LONG time and its in pretty gnarly shape. i read the casting numbers on the heads and they are d0ve-c heads...so i am wondering which set of heads would be better to use (providing i get the d0ve heads cleaned up, ect.) the c9ve or d0ve heads?
what are the specs on these heads? i have searched a lot and found nothing. thanks for all the help
for all intents and purposes the C9VE, and the DOVE heads are the same, but the DOVE heads are better known so what I would do personally is to run the C9VE heads and sell the DOVE heads because people will pay more for them just because of that casting number.
As to specs valve size I believe was 2.08/1.67 factory and the chambers are 75cc nominal size. A typical upgrade is to add 2.19/1.71 one piece stainless valves, even if you don't upgrade the intake doing the exhaust is a good idea as that is the restriction on all the factory iron, also do some clean up work on the exhaust port will greatly improve the heads.
hey, thanks for the advice. i thought they were close but i can vouch for the reputation that follows the dove heads b/c even i thought they were something special...not that they are junk, but i never really considered my old heads as anything of worth.
