Ok so i've been reading through the forums and i have read about people talking about putting the Power Stroke oil filter on the IDI when they change the oil because it is bigger, the question is i believe i read something about how your supposed to add one extra quart?? Is this correct? Does anyone know the number for the filter off hand(car quest filter number preferably)
i don't, i am still in the learning MOD myself, but in another forum a guy told me to put the T444E filter on, since it mate's up the same, but is a lot longer, and therefore has more filter area., but i plan on adding the fender mounted or maybe it is frame mounted additional filters, they call bypass filters. i have read it filters much better, and also to add maganets to the oil pan to catch any metal that might be suspended in the oil, before it has a chance of messing up the engine....
Yes, it holds an extra quart, has a little finer filter media (to keep the PSD turbo happy), and is longer. I've read of some peeps not being able to fit it on their trucks. It's rare that it won't fit, but there have been reports of it.
Unless Carquest carries WIX, I'd stay away. Generic filters, and diesel engines just doesn't seem right to me. The filters are working harder than any gasser filter designed. Just seems right to use a quality filter?
i agree with fonefiddy, and a look at a oil filter study would really get ya lost. Google: oil filter study, there is some guy that took a bunch of filters, one at a time used them on his car, drove like 5,000 miles then takes them apart and checks them for quality of filter media, bypass valve quality, and rates them on quality of construction. it is awesome to see how many of the filters are put together, and how easy they can fail.... Stay away from Fram. you might as well use notebook paper to filter your oil.
Thank you guys, so the filter i want from napa is the wix 1734 and i need to add one extra quart of oil to makeup for the bigger volume filter correct?
I just did a oil change yesterday on my 1990 7.3 - and used the larger Motorcraft filter intended for the Powerstroke engine. It was a tight fit...filter is quite close to the cross member but it did fit. It took almost 12 quarts to fill the crank case ( and filter ) to the top line of the full range.
Gentlemen..............I owned and operated auto parts stores for 30 years.........I Have seen all the filter test between brands................Wix is The Filter to use
