Hello to all...I just got another ford and need to get my front windows tinted..I have a 2000 F-150 supercab 4x4 all black...So I was thinking about buying tint and putting it on myself to save money..is this a good ideal. Cause I know it is tricky sometimes..I think the limit is 28 here in Mississippi. I want it black kinda to match the back windows...But still be legal to get an expection sticker....Should I just go ahead and get the guy I got last time to tint them..Or go ahead with the self tinting??? All help is greatly appreciated..Any tips would really help
Hey fella, I'm from Vicksburg Ms and moved away right as they imposed the new tint laws. However, i have a younger brother that lives there and has 5 on all of his windows, I too have 5 all way round my F250 (with no eyebrow) and neither of us seem to have any trouble with the popo's. As far as the "self" tinting goes, it's doable, but then again, it's kinda a pain in the %$$. I have tinted about 10 vehicles, everyone i've owned and most of my buddies. Now, at age 23 and a few more bones in my pocket, I just paid the money to not have to worry with it. I paid 180 for all of my windows in a sliding rear glass crew cab F250. So, I dont think you could even buy tint cheap enough to justify it. IMO!
Thank ya'll for the advise..Yes I think getting someone to do it for me would be the best, But one guy wanted to charge 30 bucks a window..thats 60 bucks all together!!!. I think thats alittle high. Last time it was only 20 a window and 40 all together...They at least can put the gun on it and see if it is legal...I think I might find someone else to do it for cheaper...
If the tint level you want is not legal in your state, most states will allow you to obtain a Doctors statement that provides an exception to this law and says in general: "because of (person/owner/spouse name) eye sensitivity, tinted vehicle windows are required to provide protection from the sunlight".
You submit this to your states DMV, the state will place a certification stamp on the doctors statement and return it to you to keep in your glove compartment in case you are stopped or tested in the inspection lanes when renewing your registration.
We carry this document in our Tow Vehicle with the registration and insurance cards.
A call your DMV should clarify the procedure for your own state. (My credentials are that I was a judge in Upstate New York and am currently a Bailiff in the 4th busiest Town Court system in New York State)
And for the record, I can't even put a piece of saran wrap on straight. I'd definitely pay someone a few bucks extra to be sure the tinting didn't unravel inside the window.

most places that tint for you offer a lifetime gauruntee against peeling or bubbles or stuff like that, something that DIY kit doesnt have, id have someone do it for me, 60 doesnt sound bad to me! but i live in southern california where everything is expensive!
i would take it somewhere where they will give you a warranty. I took my pont grand prix to a guy and paid i think 160 and got 20% all around. looks good and i didn't have to screw with it.
If I were you I wouldn't gamble on doing it yourself. It is soo easy to mess up and whats the extra twenty bucks or so to have someone else do it for you. That way if anything is messed up you can take it back to them and have them fix it for free!
