Well, I want to put a nice exhaust on my new truck, '96 PSD. It's gonna have to be be stacks through the bed. I already have a line on a set of 5" stacks with the in bed splitter(so you only have one hole in the bed), but here's my issue. I don't want a super loud exhaust, but I want to hear the turbo a lot more, if that makes sense. And I don't want to do much(if anything) to the engine itself- tryin to keep this simple. The truck ain't a hot rod, just my toy hauler, and I want it sound good. So with that being said, the exhaust in place is 100% stock, muffler, cat and all. What do ya think?
no i want to be able to hear it, but i don't necc want it blarin straight piped either. Catch my drift? I just to hear the turbo more and not "super loud". make sense? Like turning heads cause it sounds good not cause its so loud....
A 6637 air filter will give you more turbo noise from under the hood. Not a lot but definately more. I have a 4" pipe with an open muffler and get a lot more turbo sound that way too.

You need to check and see if the downpipe has been changed. That is one of the best modifications and if done in conjunction with a cat elimination, an open muffler, 4" exhaust and a 6637 air filter you will hear your turbo better and get noticeable power, performance increase.
If you have a nice enclosed trailer and you pull it alot with stacks you can get diesel and soot spray on it.
A good 4" turbo-back exhaust with downpipe with the muffler eliminated will turn heads and not be grossly loud unless you really stomp on it and want it to be grossly loud.
I think stacks aren't as loud as the traditional side exhaust systems. They are most definitely louder in the cab but they aren't as loud when your standing on the street getting passed by a stacked stroker. They direct the sound waves vertically instead of at the ears horizontally. This is just what i have experienced so I may be way off but I know that My single 6" factory exit exhaust is way louder then my buddies dual 5" stacked stroker. Plus I don't have the same in-cab exhaust echo he does. Good luck!
