I have a 2002 f150 5.4L. i was out off-roading one night and when i started my truck up the next morning the ac compressor was extremely noisy. Sounds like mud got into the bearings or water got in there and washed the grease outta there. i was wondering if anyone has had this problem before. or what would be a simple fix short of getting a new complressor. and the reason i know its the a/c is because the tone changes when the compressor engages and disengages.ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.
A friend of mine just bought an '02 F150 with 108k miles. He decided to drive around in the flooded streets recently for fun, now the AC compressor makes noise all the time. It is not a squeal, more of a light grind / harsh rub sound. The AC clutch works fine, it just sounds like maybe dirt in the bearing?
I would get that looked at ASAP. My Dad had the same noise with his truck and he left it for about a month. Ended up seizing up and made it so he couldn't drive his truck. Cost about $500-600 to fix it including a new belt.
astamp, that is exactly what mine sounds like. noise came after i was out wheelin. i believe water got in there and un-lubricated the bearings or something like that. trying to save the money for a new clutch and stuff.
