I just got a new truck since my '95 F-150 XL, straight cab, long bed, 300 i-6, 6spd (yes Low + 1-5), 4x4, 3.73:1 has been giving me issue after issue... But that's to be expected on a truck with 417k miles on it with the original everything!
My new truck is a 2006 F-150 XL straight cab, standard bed, 4.2l V6, 5spd, 3.73:1 LS, 7k miles. I have only had her a month (bought her with 14 miles on her, yea I drive ALOT!), and I have become somewhat disappointed with this new truck. I seems to lack the ***** that the oter trucks have and that certain ford grunt. THe more I drive it the more it feels like one of those forien jobs. I use her to commute and the work. On Saturdays I pull a 22' stock trailer from Knoxville, TN to Lexington, KY to Louisville, KY to Cookville, KY then back to Knoxville. I am payed $.75/mile but rig maintinance and fuel come out of my pocket, but still $300 take-home in a day is still good money! Overall the truck is doing well, but I still like my ol' red 95 better. Lot's better! This truck is really a miss with me, but I am holding on to her because she's a FORD!
I also own a '95 F-150 XLT, straight cab, short bed, 351 V8, auto, 3.55:1, 110k miles. She can really yank a trailer around, but the short wheel base is very unconforting when you're on the interstate with a loaded 7500# stock trailer doing 55mph. She's great around here just going down the road and back though!
And lastly I have a 72 F-100, straight cab, long bed, 300 I-6, 3 on the tree, milage reads 86k but we all know it has more than that! It's the ranch beater. She mends fences, transports hay, parks trailers, etc, etc.

I really was shooting for the 5.4L triton, but Ford doesn't put a stick in anything but the 4.2L in the 1/2 ton pick-ups, plus I couldn't get the truck I wanted with the 5.4L. If I added the $750 motor upgrade (5.4 triton), I had to add another manditory $4000 in options (automatic, A/C, couple of other things I can't remember). I got my ford with all the rebates and costomer loyalty, etc, etc, and I was out the door tax tags and all at $14,920.
But you also have to remember, I don't have A/c and my only option is a AM/FM radio. Maybe she'll grow on me. The fiance likes the new truck though, and she's a chevy girl! Maybe I'll stick her in it. I should have upgraded to the F-250 with the 5.4L triton and the 6spd (which is standard equipment)... Out the door it would have only been $17,900 out the door tax title and all!
Thanks,
John

I couldn't happen but pass this thread up. So I don't have an 04+ F150. My 97 F150 4.6 Scab 4x4 is a pavement princess and a worker when needed to be. When I use it to work I pull a 4500# trailer. Mostly it is my dd as I am 20 and it is my only vehicle. I wouldn't be afraid to take it off road for some fun. I have also had a full load of phone books in the back last summer. Even though she sat a little low, it made easy work of the load.

13k on the odometer right now. Been truly offroad 1 time and did enough damage (skidplates are nice) that the truck is a Pavement princess until I pay it off. I'll still hit the occasional muddy stretch of dirt road, but no more intentional off-road play.
it's interesting to see what people do with their trucks.

I am actually a sales rep and drive about 800 miles a week. I love the extra room and need to haul luggage, golf clubs, literature, and window samples while on the road. If I didn't get paid .48 cents a mile I wouldn't be driving it. I'd love to offroad it but can't afford the damage it will do.
