Where is the sending unit for the fuel gauge on a 1986 with EFI 302? Right now I have no idea how much gas I have, and I would really rather not run out.

It's in the tank with the low pressure fuel pump. You have to drop the tank or cut a hole in the floor of the back to get access to it.

I don't know if your tank is "held up" by the skid plate or just by the hangers.

keith cites a few safety concerns, which are very important!

also, get new straps, etc
