burning love

driving home yesterday in my 84 f-150 i smelled some burning odor...i thought it was just someone burning leaves b/c that is what it smelled like. but after parking the truck for 30 min later drove off and in about 10 secs. and smelled even stronger, when plumes of smoke came blowing out of the vents....smelled like burning leaves.... the blower was set on high... there was not smoke in the engine, just in the hvac vents.... parked it and drove my expl. cannot get it to do it again

The blower motor uses resistors for the different speeds. These are mounted in the duct so the airflow will keep them cool. They get red hot. If you have some leaves or other debris get down in the duct, it can lay on the resistors and catch fire. Your probably ok now.

If you want to double check the resistors, look for a plug under the hood that is plugged into the ductwork. Unplug the wiring, and unscrew the rectangle piece, and the resistors are mounted underneath.
