I'm getting ready to get new tires for my 89. Can't decide between the BFG mud terrains or the Firehawk RMT's. Have heard alot of good stuff bout the BFG's but not anything about the Firehawks. Does anyone here have them on their truck? Plan on getting 33x12.50x15.
Personally, I would never buy a Firestone tire. I had a set on my car in '92, and had nothing but trouble with them. I have been dead set against them since. Just MHO. I have heard the Goodyear MTR's are also excellent tires.
I like the BFG mud and all terrain. I'm running the all terrains right now. Both work well though. The all terrains last a little longer. The goodyear wranglers are also good. A friend of mine has those new ones on his truck. Michelen tires are also good. As for crapstone... well you can pretty much guess my setiments on that one.
Well I gotta tell'ya I've run alot of Firestone tires with no problems. I have the 31x10.50x15 Wilderness AT on my truck now. These were on the truck when I bought it over 3 years ago. These are not part of the recall. Anyway, they still have plenty of tread on them and ride and drive very well. Just my 2 pennies worth. I thought these were on the recall, thats why I was going to get the 33's. I had 2 At's and 2 of another brand. I couldn't justify throwing out the older tires. I can probably get another 2 years out of the old ones. So anyway I got 2 more AT's to match the 2 I already have. But man I wish I could have justified getting the 33's!:7

After shopping around, some places wanted around $200 per tire.
A Firestone tire on my Bronco blew up and took out the tailpipe and paint on the rocker panel. They were then replaced under the recall. I wouldn't have them on my truck. It seems that Firestone has always had problems. Many of us here are probably old enough to remember the Firestone 500. Same story, about 25 years ago though. I have heard only good things about the BFG's. They will be the next tires that go on my Bronco. I am looking for a smooth riding tire that has a reasonably aggressive pattern for light off roading (ie mud, snow, not rock climbing).
- Personally wouldn't go with the Firestones, even if they are cheaper. I had a set on my truck and was relatively satisfided with them till I bought a set of Michelins. Man, the Michelins will last twice as long, wear better, and handle better. I've also had good luck with the BFGs -heck I still got an old pair of BFGs from the late '70s on a wagon. The only firestone tires I'd buy are Ag-tires (ya can't beat their tractor tires, but they seem to skimp on truck tires.)
Check tirerack.com for various surveys and reviews of the various tires. I did and I purchased Perelli Scorpion AT 31x10.5-15 and had them siped these tires are great and out of all the surveys done were the only ones with no bad reviews with over 2 million miles of people reviewing the tire. They also make a Mud tire Scorpion Mud. I shopped internet prices agianst discount local and discount local matched out the door, mounted, balanced, siped everything for 480.00.
