Hello everyone I live in Indiana and the weather got down to 32 degrees yesterday and my 2000 F350 wouldn't start it took me about 10 minutes before it would finally fire. I would crank it over and then let the "wait to start light" cycle again and then try again. Is there any way to tell if this is just a relay or if my glow plugs are going bad?
My second question is has any one here sent just there stock PCM to have tuned. I know that DP Tuners has different settings but I am not sure which way to go. My truck is a highway driver 5 days a week and then on the weekends I pull anywhere from 3,000lbs to 18,000 lb trailers.
Thanks for all your guys help I know I haven't posted here allot but every time I do I get really good feed back and I appreciate all of the help I can get.
To check the GP relay you can try a voltage check at the 2 large posts 1 should always have power and the 2nd should have power when the Wait2 start light comes on.This relay fails very!!! often it's about 60$ Can. at a NAPA. The other way to check-it is to short the 2 large terminals for about 10-15 secs. before starting (with the key half-way on) if it starts bettor then the relay is probably at fault.
Let me know how it goes .
if you do a search you will find the pin out of the glow plugs as well. My opinion of having your PCM sent out, you are then commited, and there is no way back. where if you buy a programmer, you can go back to your stock settings if need for troubleshooting, service, ect.
