hey guys sorry about the wait but ive been real real sick for the last 2 weeks... not good
so as of now i have the stage 1 injectors and bts valve body in with the down pipe and tymar intake on.
so all i have left is the chip and the rest of the exhaust system.
my question is how carried away did you guys get when cleaning up the terminals on the ecm? i have the white lithium? cream off but there seems to be a thin layer of silicone or something? how did you guys get that off or did you not worry about it?
also the reason i dont have the rest of the exhaust on is that mbrp 3" downpipe is wedged in there really tight right now and im not happy with it i did hammer on the firewall for more room just to get it in there but i just cant seem to get enough room to get it to fit nice. any ideas?
thanks in advance guys the truck takes off much better with just the vb and injectors i cant wait to get this chip in
sorry i don't have an answer for your question, but how long did it take to put your downpipe in? i have a 3" downpipe sitting in my garage (recently purchased) and it looks like maybe tops a 45 minute job, just cause of getting angles right and everything
yea thats what i thought to, by looks of it 45 min job but when i got to workin on it (on a lift i might add) it took me almost 2 hours just to get the old stock downpipe off
it fought me the whole way and by the time i got it out i had it cut into 4 pieces not good and then to put the new one it i smashed and hammered on the firewall and cab just to get the new one to slide in there. so as of now its in but i dont like how it is in because when you put it in park on a hill or get on the brakes kinda hard it rattles aginst the cab and makes all sort of noise. not to mention its so damn tight in there i can even wiggle it
haha yeah it does look tight in there, but my truck has 34's and that gives me enough room to just squeeze under, i'm thinkin about usin our lift though to do it, idk yet, i'll try doin it tomorrow and if it's a pain to get it off, time to get the torch out
The answer to your down pipe clearance issues.....Port-a-power with the duck bill attachment. It took longer to set it up than it did to bend the firewall back. As far as getting the old DP out, sawsall with a Milwakee torch blade. Cuts it like butter. Cut it as close to the turbo as you can. I think you will find yourself holding the saw at about a 45* angle from the passenger side valve cover. You should be able to work it out then. If you don't want to spend the change on a port-a-power tool, find a scissor jack out of a ricer car. But remember to cut the weld seam between the firewall and floor board. You want to look down at your stock pipe and make references where you want to cut that seem. Basicly you want to cut that seam on either side of the pipe so you can bend it down flat. it will make sense when you look at it. But a sawsall is a must for this job, and more specificly that type of blade. I hope that helps guys.
Not only did I use a sawzall, but I also used a 4 1/2 in angle grinder and a small 3in air grinder, whichever fit best, to cut my stock dp and cut the firewall seam that needs to be hammered. You already got your stock dp out but for others - before you cut it, unclamp it from the turbo and cover the turbo opening with duct tape. Make a good seal to keep metal shavings out.
LOL, That's the technical term for it. I just wanted to put it in easy to understand language. Thanks, I needed that laugh.
haha well it's 1am here in nj and i'm pretty much falling asleep in my chair, so it's hard to think so yeah i'm gonna head to bed... and back to the topic, i have all the tools i need to do this, it's really nothing too special, and i always have the lift if i need to use that... which i might from listening to you guys! anyways g'night everyone haha
yea 1:30am here in wisconsin rght now gettin up at 6:30am to get back out into the shop and get the chip in
i already have the new downpipe in but i think im going to take it out and make some more room for it because im not quite happy with it yet, good idea with the porta power i didnt think or that! i was just smacking it with a hammer the best i could
anybody wanna chime in on the chip installation? im still wondering about that layer of silcone that i cant seem to get off ive been working at it with electric cleaner but i cant sem to get it. so how much time did you guys spend cleaning it up or do you just wipe off the white litium greese and plug it in?
I cleaned my until I could see the brass start to show past the silver. I probably cleaned too much. But I had no issues. Like plow said, Scotchbrite, small screwdriver, and I used acetone too to get the initial layer off.
