Just wondering if you people could give some advice on taking care of the exterior of a new black truck. I don't want to go overboard...doesnt have to be shiny all the time....just want it to last a long, long time and with all the products out there...I do not know where to start. Currently I just take it to a manual car wash about 2 or 3 times a month and spray it down good and dry it and occasionaly take it to full service wash so the underbody gets flushed, but I would like to know what to do about maintaining the clear coat and wax and all that good stuff with out it costing me a fortune. (Also and wheels, tires, chasiss...thanx).
Also...does anyone know where the hell you can purchase seat covers for the 2002 F150's with the seat belt built into the seat? So far I have only found them through saddleman and they are custom made for about $200. Any ideas would be helpful...thanxs in advance!
Well, Two Problems. Northern weather, and BLACK.
Keep the bottom Sprayed off with the car wash Power spray.
I use "NU FINISH" Goes on easy, comes off easy. NOTE: When waxing Black. Be real easy with putting the wax on and real easy buffing it out. Don't scrub it. Don't use car wash brushes. Hope this helps..
Once every 6 months, spring and fall are good times, wax the truck by hand and hand buff it with a soft towel. You can use any quality wax. Do not use anything that has abrasives / cleaners in it until your truck needs it, which is years from now. I use MGuiars (sp?) liquid wax that sprays on. A coat of wax protects your paint from grime and from UV. It fills micro cracks that otherwise can grow and damage deeper layers of the paint. If you don't get to it twice a year, do at least the vertical surfaces (roof and hood) twice a year and the whole truck once a year. The vertical surfaces are more prone to to rain / weather and the sun damaging them.
Our truck is 5 years old now. You can check it out in my gallery. Apart from parking lot dings and rock chips the paint looks like new. People that don't know the model years well often think it is brand new!
Cheers, George
PS: Don't worry about seat covers for wear protection unless you are getting them dirty with work clothes or similar. We have the captains chairs, tan, they have 155k miles of our butts on them and no sign of wear!
