Looking for help to solve this without going to a garage and getting charged an arm just to find the problem. I have a 1988 F250 that has the Rear Antilock Light come on as soon as I start up and drive forward. Can anyone tell what could be causing this and ease to fix. In addition, the left side rear will brake before the other wheels. I have tried to adjust and does not seem to matter how much I back it off.
While I think the problems may be related, keep in mind that the rear ABS that Ford used back then was the most primitive and basic kind and, to be honest, sucks worse than a hoover.
But the problem is probably that left rear wheel. You may have a stuck wheel cylinder (they are often neglected on older trucks), broken hardware, etc. I would inspect the rear brakes carefully, replace the cylinders if they need it, and bleed it thoroughly.
I had the same problem with mine. It had new shoes 20000k miles ago but when I pulled off the drum I found the shoes cracked from overheating. I bought new shoes, drums, & hardware. Problem solved. My light comes on periodically, but I could care less. brakes work good.
On mine, the ignition switch sticks.... I turn it back a bit... and the problem is solved... but I doubt that is your problem... my truck was abuse by the previous idiot... Ooops, I mean owner...
If all of the above doesn't fix it,have a look @ the speed sensor on the diff.Check wires first,if all good pull the sensor and clean it,(This has worked for some) or replace it.I bought one from ford a few weeks back for $28 Cdn.
Faulty wheel cylinders is your braking issue......but your ABS light issue is not. Check speed sensor on diff. as mentioned earlier. Another component is the brake modulator as well as the ABS module itself. I can send you the troubleshoot info via fax if you'd like.

Just went through this with my 89' f250. on the master cylinder there is a electrical
plug on the side, wiggle it around and make sure your getting good contact. Mine was
loose so i unplugged it cleaned it up wrapped once with electrical tape and plugged
it back in. Have'nt had a problem since.
