Tech Help Please....!!!!! - need spedometer cable parts

Ok. . i have a problem... hopin one of you techs can help me... I have a 72/74/798 Ford F-250 4X4 highboy 4 speed manual ..(FRANKENSTEIN) . its a 72 chassis with a 74 body and a 79 transplant of a motor.. (351M). its titled as a 72 but to me looks like a 74.. My problem is i need a spedometer cable and not even LMC truck can help me.. What gets me is the transfer case to the 4 wheel drive seems like it was never removed from the chassis. and same for the tranny.. i need to know exactly what i need... as far as i can see the end on the transfer case is a thread on end and the speedometer has a shaft with only 1 groove in it about a half inch from the tip... i dunno if its a clip on or a bolt on.. it has 2 screws holdin in the speedo.. one on top and one below. i have pics that i can provide of the back of the speedo and of the transfer case if any one can help me. i just need to know the technical terms of the parts i need.. any help would be so apreciated.. my email is brettstgermain@yahoo.com please help.. thanks -Brett

Welcome to the site.
So the topic of the thread is: Need Speedometer cable correct ?

Please put the topic in the title of thread.

You have a few minutes to change it.

I'm trying to find you the correct image of it.

Do you see it listed here?

Look for a local speedometer shop. I have a 79 super cab - the stock speedometer cable slips onto the back of the speedometer with the threaded connection on the tranny end.

You don't mention if you just need the flexible cable that is inside the tube or the whole thing.

I changed out my instruments so I ended up getting a custom cable & flexible tube to fit the new speedometer. I got mine at a shop that specializes in mechanical cables. I know with the predominance of electrical speedometers that some shops are getting away from the mechanical system.

thanks for the rapid reply... i do in fact need the whole thing.. when i bought this truck it didnt have the speedo cable at all.. the cable i need goes from the back of the speedo and screws into the transfer case.. as this truck it 4 wheel drive..and manual transmission. also... if this helps... the truck is titled a 72 BUT.... to me looks identical to a 74.. its a standard cab 2 door. 8 foot bed.. if u send me your email i can send the pics i have taken of both the speedo and transfer case.. so u can see exactly what i have and maybe it will help you help me better. again thanks..-Brett
