So I'm doing my first head gasket on my 89 F-150 5.0 and I've run into a major problem. While removing the lower intake manifold, Two of the bolts have broken off, the drivers side front corner and passenger side rear corner. How should I go about fixing this? Drill them out and re-tap? Anyone ever done this before?
Also, it looks like I'm going to have to take the exhaust manifolds off before removing the heads, is that correct? What is the best way to go about that? I soaked the bolts in PB Blaster today. Any and all advice and help is greatly appreciated!
If the bolts broke off in the head then just wait untill you have the heads out to tap and use an easy out to extract the broken bolts. You will have to take the exhaust manifolds off.
