i tried searching the forums for an answer...they are all about the rear tailgate window anyways i have a 93 bronco and the driver side window will not go down. its not off the track or anything..has to be something electrical. It will work like one time a week randomly....any suggestions? thnks
Yes, it is your window motor. Pull the door panel off, if the motor has been replaced, there will be 3 holes drilled, remove the fasteners and the window motor, if the motor is original, you will see several "center punched" dimples, take a 1/2" bit and drill through the sheet metal, remove bolts.
once motor is out, turn key on and press the window up/down button, see if it cycles, probable won't, what has happend the gears are all gummed up/broken, take the gear face plate off and take a look, if nothing is broke, take some dielectric (-2 sp) grease and that might free it up, if not, pick up a rebuild kit at autozone for about $18 and rebuild. It comes with the grease.
if the little nylon bearings are all crumbled in the motor, you can pick up new ones at autozone for $5 in the help section. That is what was wrong with mine. you may also want to check that your switch is sending voltage to your motor before you go taking it out.
i took the motor out and it looks fine and when i press the window up and down button the gear spins fine....is it possible it just doesnt have the power anymore to lift the window? or if it spins fine should it work?
Double check the torque pins (the bushings inside the face plate x3). These should be round. If not (they will be oblong) replace them like someone said above. Grease your track, gears and those torque pins. Reinstall and try it again. Also make sure there wiring is ok.
It could be just old. I'm not sure what kind of motor it is, but if it is a brushed DC motor and your brushes have gone bad (as they eventually do), then you might not be able to get much torque out of it. can you attach some fishing wire to it with a weight on the other end or something like that and see if its able to wind up the weight. if it can't lift small loads i'd say just go get a new one, they're not that much.
i just finished doing all that the torque pins in the motor were all deformed so i replaced them and i thought that would work....installed the motor the window went up hardly and now that its up it wont work again....any suggestions before buying an all new motor?
There is a big screw on top that adjusts the gearing...did you try adjusting that? If it is too tight, it may not spin properly. Just some suggestions before you spend money on a new motor!
yea i played around with it ended up buying a new motor and it works so im happy
As long as you have a functional window that's all that counts....mine did'nt work for awhile and it was a pain (and embarassment) going through the drive-through!

Been there, you get a few strange looks when you pull past the drive-thru window lean your seat back and reach thru the opening where the top goes
...or attempting to order food with your door half way open!!!
I also am having the same problem with my driver side window. I actually took out the original motor yesterday and it is completely dead so I purchased a new one from checker. However, when I wired up the new motor it would only work when I pushed 'up' on the window button. Here are my symptons, if you could let me know if it is my wiring or the motor:
Motor only works when I push the up button, not the down button; however, if I switch the wires around when I push the up button the motor will turn down. So the gears will go both ways but only at the command to go up.
I checked the connections with my circuit test lights and they both seem to be putting out voltage. When I touched the left wire with the probe the light came on only when I pushed down but not up. When I touched the right wire with the probe the light came on only when I pushed up but not down. Because of this, it seems that the connections are good but the motor is bad.
First - did both directions work before the motor went? If yes...then
- double check the harness connector to motor...look for any connection that looks like it might be failing.
-start chasing the switch. When you pulled (or yanked) the door panel off, some damage could have been done to it.
Available in all auto parts stores. The usual FAQ is...Which one do you want, the early or late kit? The late kit (1970/ ) is the correct answer for trucks, vans and Bronco's.. The early kit fits 1965/69 only.
