Steering component wear

Heya guys,
I just purchased a 2003 F150 Supercrew FX4 4X4 with a 5.4L that has
70000 miles. What my question is how much movement in the steering components is acceptable? When the wheels are on the ground with the full weight of the truck on them if you rotate the steering wheel left to right and have someone watch the pitman arm, idler arm drag link and tierod ends there is no slop everything is tight ie: no free play in the steering. Ok that being said when you jack up one side you can wiggle the tire left to right and when you do this the drag link rotates in an up and down fashion but nothing else moves. Is this normal or what? They failed me on the pitman and idler arm but there was no free play in the steering so i told the guy i didnt agree and i thought everything was as it should be and a long story short i got them to pass my safety inspection. Has anyone ever experienced this?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you in advance!!!

ford has a tech bulletin on this.. if memory serves me. dial indicator is put at very end of the idler arm. 5mm is acceptable play. after that idler arm is to be replaced.
