was there a foctory tach option for the 87 f-150????

yes there was, and if yours was like mine, you have the speedo with two gauges on each other side. You can either add an aftermarket one, or take apart the dash and swap the instrument cluster. It's not really hard, you just have to take out all the screws and unplug the back of the cluster before you try to take it all the way out. With it being an '87 like mine, any cluster '87-'90 will work just fine.

Check your local junkyard/salvage yard for them. I got mine for $15, and I have loved having the tach.

it was for me, you just have to get the whole cluster and then swap them out.
