I have a 1990 FS Bronco XLT, high milage but, mostly stock 351.
on the averageevery 6 months or so I blow the exhaust gaskets, this is getting to be a pain in the A**.
I have tried all different types of gaskets and the last time I surfaced the head and manifold and tried no gasket at all, on the advice of my mech. and now it is leaking again
does anyone know if there is a fix for this, will after market headers help or am I doomed to repete this for ever cause I am not selling this truck it has been the best one, over all, I have ever owned
I wonder if you may have a clogged convertor or maybe the guts of the muffler have rusted and blocked the system. I would think backpressure might aggravate a gasket blowing problem.
I had the same problem with my "87" 302. I got rid of my empty CAT's and ditched the manifolds, I put on the shorty headers and a high flow cat. I don't have any more leaks but the new cat (Y-pipe) gets really hot. The local exaust shop tells me that these Ford exaust's tend to run very high temps. Oh-ya, don't forget to change that O2 sensor.
