This may be an unworthwhile venture, but I am dead set on having a manual transmission in my 88 EB Bronco. If anyone can give me any info (ideally a breakdown of all the costs you can think of and the different ways to do it) for this procedure I would appreciate it. I am planning on finding a tranny out of a junk yard and getting all the other parts myself, and having it professionally installed. Also, what would be some good suggestions for a manual transmission to use?
Thanks fellas,
Jordan

There is another guy under the transmission forum on this website that is considering a similar swap. To your advantage you have the C6 transmission which is mechanical so you do not have to change any of the computer or electrical components. I have a 90 Bronco and was considering going to either an np435 or a zfs542. The np is a 4-speed with a 6.69:1 first and a 1:1 4th. The ZF is a 5-spd with a 5.47 1st and a 0.73(?) fifth. Both transmissions will bolt up to a 300/302/351(for np435 make sure that bell housing is correct). The cheapest i have seen a rebuilt ZF for is $1050 at www.phoenixhardparts.com. As for the np435 I am still looking but they are much more inexpensive almost half price. You will have to lengthen/shorten your front and rear driveshafts (make sure they bolt up to the t-case if you change it), makes sure that your t-case will bolt to the manual(I have been told that manuals have different output shafts so a new t-case would be required, although I am not sure about this), modify your trans support crossmember, you will also need a clutch and most likely a new flywheel. For my 90 I have an E40d which would require a new starter since it is mounted on the tranny. There should already be a hole in the fire wall for the clutch and there is a plate that you can remove so that the shifter can fit through the floor. I have not done the swap yet so all of my info is research and word of mouth. good luck.
