Ok I would like some suggestions on what all you gear heads do when installing gaskets, water pump, timming chain cover, front seal to the pan (the rubber seal that goes between the timing chain cover and the pan)
I rebuilt my motor, I have a small oil leak I believe is coming from the front seal it just makes me mad to have this clean motor and have a leak, also the water pump I put on was for reverse rotation I did not know that is what it was, that is not what I was told at O'Reilys, but that is what I got. I did not check it because it had the back plate on the back of the pump, so I pulled it off to put a clockwise rotation high volume pump on. The motor never got hot running around town or on the high way at low rpm but if I was ******* it around or pulling my boat it would get up to about 210 so, I also pulled the thermostate out which helped some, do I really need to run a thermostate in the summer, once the motor gets up to temperature the therostate stays open.
I have always been a big fan of RTV black by putting thin coat on both sides of the gasket. Not on the rubber seal on the bottom I only use it where the rubber meets the cork oil pan gasket.
I ordered parts today from summit racing for my 351W ie: water pump, timing chain cover etc. Long story short the guy at summit racing said he uses Edelbrock Gasgacinch and it work real well.
I would like some imput on what you all use, the more the better please.
Thanks fellas

Ahh the RTV Black Gasket maker sealant. I believe this stuff is made like glue, you stick it on BOTH sides..and it won't leak, won't shrink...gas and oil resistant, and sets up as hard as can be expected after its dried....just don't put it between the throttle body on both sides....yep its going to stay there for a Loonngg time. Its not gonna come off or apart again....now if I can just get it apart again.
You need to check the damper when you take it off again. The seal will wear a groove in it, and a new seal will leak. The make what they call speedy sleeves to repair the groove.
Hey Dave I checked the damper it looks good, smooth I do remember when I put the seal in it started to go in sideways and I had to take it back out, so I don't know if boogered it up or what any suggestions putting a seal back in, maybe I should just get a new cover they are only $109.00
