Please Help!!!
I had my mechanic replace my timing chain today coause he said it was making noise and it was the timing chain, but when he got it back together it was still making the noise. What else could it be?

68bluebeast, what sort of noise is it making.Ticking? Rapping? Grinding? Do you know what engine is in your truck? I don't remember any older Ford engine that was known for timing chain noises.

It is a ticking or a clicking sound, and it is a 360, it also kind of stops when you hit the gas. if the timing chain is streched enough it would hit the timing cover and make noise, or am I wrong?

Ford never used exhaust manifold gaskets on FE engines. The manifold is bolted directly to the cylinder head~metal to metal. Over the years, a clicking sound will develop, and it mimics the sound of lifters, worn timing chains, and front end noises. Aftermarket exhaust manifold gaskets are available from parts houses, the thicker the better.

There is a spring in the actuator arm of the mechanical fuel pump that acts as a return spring. Sometimes these springs break causing a ticking sound at the fuel pump. With the engine running, CAREFULLY place the blade end of a very long screwdriver to the top of the fuel pump and put your ear to the handle (as a stethoscope) and check for ticking sound.

A hose, block of wood, long screwdriver all work -- if you work on the engine much might as well get this stethoscope. The ear plugs help block out the other noises. A few bucks at Harbor Freight and elsewheres.
