A question: I know there are fiberglass body parts out there like bed sides and front clip assemblies, does anyone know where to look on the web for dent side F-150's?
Here's another one, I'm ready to start the redo process on my rear wheel wells, I was wondering how fiberglass filler works. How does it stick and does it promote more rust?
Well, the short skinny on fibreglass filler from my end is that I love it. As far as doing a rust repair, in the matter of wheel well openings, I'd go ahead and put the patch panels in it, then you can skim coat it with the glass to build it up and finish off with a glazing putty.
Nothing will stop rust as far as bodyfillers unless you cut the rust out first. I don't care what anyone says, if you leave rust in and don't use one of the new products like Por-15 or rust bullet, you're playing with fire and it's only a matter of time.
So I fully intend on cutting out the rust, get the old angle grinder fired up, and put in the new metal. Here a thought let me know what you think? So when i put in the new metal i want to put it in from the back side, and use the fiberglass to fill in the low area. What kind of fiber glass do you recommend?
I'm replacing the inner fenders as well, but i really want to protect them with rust bullet, i'm not sure how. I think i could fiber glass everything and maybe keep the rust from coming back...
Depends which you're more comfortable with,, most people prefer a short strand system like Tiger Hair,, it's a bodyfiller style reinforced with fiberglass strands.. Or, for more overall strength, you can use resin and matte,,, I've used both, I like both methods. Using resin and matte takes longer though due to the dry times, short strand dries fast just like a bodyfiller will and sands much easier.
