Door frame removal help needed
I'm trying to replace my broken rearview mirror on the driver's side of my 2002 F150, but no one can seem to figure out how to get the inside door frame off. Can anyone help?If this is still the same than in 97, here you go:
The top pieces of the plastic covers on the window frame are only snapped in place. Just pry them off. The lower triangular shaped one hides the mirror studs with nuts on them (3). If you have a mechanical non heated non power mirror, you are already there after taking the three nuts off. If not, take the door panel off as well to get to the wiring.
To take the door panel off, take the small cover tab from the inner door opening handle and unscrew the door handle which is bolted with one (allenhead) bolt that is covered by that cover tab. Remove handle. From there, as far as I remember, the doorpanel is just hung into the door on hooks, pull up until you hit a resistance, then pull out. Undo the wiring connectors and take off panel. Putting it back is reverse order. Some snap ins may break. Do not hesitate to use self tapping screws to put it back in. Let me tell you your dealership will do nothing else!

Hope your year is still the same. If you can post a pic of your inner door, I can tell you for sure.
Good Luck,
George (new mirror on our tru, 6 weeks ago!)
Yeah! You gave me the right starting point and courage. There is another "snap on" plastic cover above the main panel to the left of the window and there was a second screw under that, but the cover behind the door handle was the ticket. Then it just lifted off...nothing to "snap" on the main door. The only think I don't like is the replacement mirror "jumps" and isn't as steady as the original. Is there anything to do to make it not do this?Erratic movement of the new mirror? That sounds like the internal mechanics. There are 2 motors that move 2 spindles. Unless you are at the end of the range of movement, there should be no snapping, only smooth operation.
Did you get that replacement mirror at the Ford dealer? If yes, consider bringing it back for a replacement. My replacement from the Ford dealer sure worked as smoothely as the old one did (before that truck took it off...)
Cheers, George
