Suggestions please.......

OK, heres what I got and I want to know what you guys think I should do to get it out of my yard.

Some of you replied to posts about this truck when I was working on it the last time.

1987 Ford F-250 Ext. cab 2wd 4 spd. 6.9 engine

I have had this truck for 5 years using it as a feed truck. I did nothing to it the first four years. Last year I repalced the lift pump and the glow plugs.

The truck started smoking a few months ago so I brought it into my shop, and as advised by some FTE members I did the following maintenance:
* Replace return line o-rings and hoses.
* Changed engine oil and filter
* Air filter
* Drained and refill the tranny
* Drained and refill the radiator
* re-packed front wheel bearings / replaced both bearings in one side that was pitted a little

What happened, the truck started and ran perfect, NO MORE SMOKE, life was good. I drove it home from the shop, about 14 miles. Then I used it 2 or 3 more times, went out one morning and it wouldn't start, pulled the dipstick and it had coolant in the crankcase. Assuming its the head gasket.

What I THINK happened, the overflow tank was removed when I got the truck and it had a hose hanging down. When we drained the radiator it wasn't completely full, when I refilled I filled it full. I didn't think to check and see if a dirt dobber or some other bug had stopped up the hose. I haven't looked since either. Since I have had no trouble for 5 years until I did this work, if the overflow was stopped up it may have forced water through a weak spot in the head gasket when it got up to operating temp???

The truck is fairly rough and has a hole cut in 1 side of the bed where the cattle feeder sticks out.

I got pissed off and bought another old truck for my feed truck ( 4wd) this time.

If the truck was 4wd, I would have fixed it. Since its 2wd I didn't want to do the labor nor spend the money for someone else to do it.

Does anyone know what I could get for it if I took it to a place that buys trucks to crush them and recycle?

If I pull the engine out and replace the head gaskets what would the engine be worth?

I know these old trucks aren't worth much, but anything I can get would help our family.

Please tell me what you guys would do with it if it was yours to get a few bucks out of it.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone know of any auto recyclers around Dallas - Tyler texas area?

Very well could be a head gasket......but your theory as to how it happened I'd question... The 6.9 is a know head gasket case...

Got a free ad truck trader in your area, stick it in there as a parts truck..... the engine/trans could be salvageable so could other parts.... sell it all in one piece or part it out.
