240 verses 300

Hey guys i just found this site out. This is so cool. Id like to ask a ? if you can help. I have a 1965 F-100 240 motor 60,000 original miles i had a rod or bearing i think start nocking when i got it the dummy oil light was on ,the oil level was ok, so i thought i was good to go but i think maybe the oil pump was out. Any was im wondering if i take a 300 six out of a 1980 ford if it would bolt right up and would i have to change any thing. I sure love this truck i only got to drive it for 2 months i bought it from the original owner. Thanks so much for any help. Jeff

The only major difference between the 240 & 300 is the crank & rods. The combustion chambers are a little different. After 87(?) the 300's were fuel injected (EFI). Only 240's were installed in passenger cars, so do not look there for a 300. Pickups from '65 through '86 are your best bet for finding a carbed 300, but it could be a 240. Post back the ID info on the door and people here can decode it for you.

Welcome to FTE.

I meant the numbers from a truck with a potential 300 to make certain it was a 300 and not a 240. If the original air cleaner is there (& has not been swapped), it will say 240 or 300. Sorry for the confusion.
