I noticed in a post about upgrading later model gear to a 81 frame the member refered to the fact that he knew about the "Cheezy Frame". What is the difference in the frames on these trucks?
Ford cut a bunch of holes in the frame rails in their 80-82 trucks in an attempt to make the truck lighter and therefore, more fuel efficient to try to get around some smog laws. Hence, the "cheesy" frame. It isn't terrible to have one of these frames, but if you go offroading in hardcore terrain a lot, the frames could flex too much and that could cause the frame to crack. (Bad mojo)
The difference between an F-100 and F-150 is that an F-150 is labeled as a "heavy" half ton while an F-100 is, basically, a light duty truck. And when I say light duty, I mean light duty. I think the payload is about 500lbs less with an F-100 compared to an F-150, but don't quote me on that. An F-150 has a larger 5x5 1/2 lug pattern while an F-100 has a 5x4 1/2 lug pattern. That, IIRC, is the same as a car. So it can be said that an F-100 is really just a car with an open cargo area.

my father has an f-250 with the swiss-cheese frame, and using the truck as a plow truck only, the truck did develop a lot more frame twisting and body damage as a direct result. do take into consideration, that is using this truck to essentially drive into a stationary object time and time again. snow banks do not like to move, and snowplowing is notoriously hard on trucks
