2002 F-150 XLT Door Panel Removal
Yesterday I joined your site in order to find the correct method for removing the door panel from the aforementioned truck. I was unable to find the correct method-- I *did* find the method for removing a door panel WITHOUT power accessories. It should be noted that the procedure is ENTIRELY different.
I thought I'd log back in and post the ACTUAL METHOD (had to figure it out on my own) for removing the XLT model (power lock, windows) door panel. Actually, it's MUCH simpler than the standard XL model. In fact, there are no "snap-plugs" (or whatever they would be called) to unpry. It's really as simple as TWO SCREWS.
Here goes:
1) You remove the door trim at the rear of the door window-- this is a rectangle piece of trim that pops right out. You're able to do this with your hand alone. This will expose a phillip's head screw at the rear-top of the door panel.
2) Next, you'll want to pop out the "cup" (the trim that surrounds the door handle mechanism)-- this I started GENTLY with a flat head and then finished with my hand. This exposes a SECOND screw to be removed after the next step.
3) Next, you'll want to pop up (using the start with flat head finish with hand method) the piece on the arm rest that houses the power-lock and power-window buttons. At this point, electrical can be EASILY disconnected (snap-plugs).
4) Next, you'll want to remove the screw that was exposed when you removed the "cup" (step 2). At this point, you simply push in an upward motion the actual panel and it slides right out of its "seated" position. Be careful NOT to pull the panel away too quickly as the "panel lamp" (light recessed in door) electrical is still connected from door to panel. Disconnect the light electrical at the point where it fits into the panel-- simple twist and turn.
5) Remove door panel and set aside. You will find that the entirety of the door is covered with an adhesive thick piece of some sort of protective layer. I was able to remove and stick back on from the spots where I needed to get to.
6) Reassemble in reverse-- very simply process. I needed to do this to replace passenger side-view mirror. My next post will be a question regarding this mirror.
Good luck!
Brad
